Chen Hanwei was driving home when he got into car accident with cyclist in Balestier

Mediacorp actor Chen Hanwei, 54, was involved in a minor car accident with a cyclist on August 8. 
In a report from Shin Min Daily News, the cyclist, known as Zhou, 33, shared that he was cycling behind a car along Irrawaddy Road in Balestier.
Zhou said he was aware that the road is usually teeming with vehicles. 
“To ensure safety, I rode on the left side,” he recalled. 
Zhou claimed that the car in front of him did not signal nor give way to him before turning into a condominium.
“All of a sudden, the car slowed down and took a left turn into a condominium. I couldn’t stop in time and hit the left side of the car, lost my balance and fell,” said Zhou.
It was only when the driver got out of the car, did Zhou realise it was Hanwei.
“He didn’t apologise at that point in time and only asked if I was alright. I felt that he wasn’t actually concerned about me but was simply making sure that I was okay so he wouldn’t have to take responsibility,” asserted Zhou, who reportedly suffered abrasions on his right arm and left leg.
Hanwei later shared with Shin Min that he was driving home when “a bicycle suddenly hit the left side of [his] car”. 
Hanwei admitted he did not turn on his signal before turning but said he did slow down to make the turn. 
He also noticed that the cyclist was not wearing a helmet. 
“I saw that he did not wear a helmet, so I asked if he was okay and if he was hurt,” he explained. “But he kept filming me, so I suggested that we should call the police. When I was calling the police, he left and even left the bicycle on the road.”
Zhou, on the other hand, claimed he initially wanted to settle the matter privately, but Hanwei did not admit he was at fault and was not willing to exchange contact details. 
“[Hanwei] said that there is no zebra crossing on the road, so he’s not obliged to give the right of way. But I feel that it’s still his responsibility to bear,” said Zhou.
Zhou also claimed he only left the scene because he had emergency matters to attend to and he later lodged a police report. 
The police have since confirmed that they had received a report regarding a case involving a car and a bicycle. They also shared that the cyclist only suffered minor injuries and did not require medical assistance. 
Investigations regarding the case are ongoing.
Hanwei told Shin Min he had told the police he would bear full responsibility if he was proven to be at fault. 
He added that if Zhou was found to be at fault, he would not need him to pay for him the car repairs as “it’s a small matter”.
